Apple Increases A18 Chip Orders, Indicating Strong Demand for iPhone 16 Series

Apple has recently made a significant increase in its orders for the upcoming A18 chip, expecting to procure between 90 million to 100 million units from TSMC. This move not only reflects Apple’s strong confidence in the forthcoming iPhone 16 series but also indicates a higher market demand for new products in 2024.

Compared to last year's initial orders for the iPhone 15 series, which ranged from 80 million to 90 million units, this year's orders have reached a new high. This growth signals Apple’s optimistic outlook for the iPhone 16 series, with market analysts suggesting it could trigger a new wave of sales growth for the company.

A key feature in the upcoming iOS 18, dubbed "Apple Intelligence," is expected to drive sales of the iPhone 16 series significantly. However, this feature requires at least the iPhone 15 Pro or newer models to function. In other words, users who purchased the iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Plus will need to upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro or buy a new iPhone 16 to enjoy this new capability.

On the technical front, the iPhone 16 series is anticipated to fully utilize the A18 chips based on TSMC's N3E process. The standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus may retain the A17 Pro chip design from the iPhone 15 Pro, while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature the more powerful "A18 Pro" chip, enhancing AI and machine learning experiences.

Additionally, the standard iPhone 16 is expected to increase its RAM from 6GB in the iPhone 15 to 8GB, ensuring efficient operation of large local language models. Apple has clearly stated that 8GB of RAM is the minimum requirement for running such applications locally.

In line with Apple's typical release schedule, the iPhone 16 series is expected to officially debut this fall, around mid-September. As the launch date approaches, anticipation for the new devices continues to grow. Apple’s substantial increase in A18 chip orders undoubtedly adds to the excitement surrounding this upcoming product release.

In summary, Apple's strong demand expectations for the iPhone 16 series are evident not only in the notable boost in chip orders but also in the continuous optimization and innovation of product performance, features, and user experience. As the release date nears, we can reasonably expect the iPhone 16 series to once again set new trends in the smartphone market.
