Elon Musk Unveils Humanoid Robot Rental and Sales Options with Priority on Rental Services

Tesla has made significant strides in the development of its humanoid robot, Optimus, and regularly shares updates on its progress. Elon Musk recently announced plans not only to sell Optimus but also to offer a rental service, with rental options set to launch before sales.

Musk indicated that Tesla will provide both rental and purchase options for Optimus, with sales expected to begin next year. However, he has yet to disclose specific details regarding the rental service or how consumers and businesses can participate in it.

During the recent Tesla 2024 shareholder meeting, Musk shared that multiple Optimus robots are already in operation at the Fremont facility in California, primarily handling the sorting and transportation of battery cells. He anticipates that by next year, over 1,000 Optimus robots will be in use at the factory.

Additionally, Musk revealed that the dexterity of Optimus's hands will increase from 11 to 22 degrees of freedom later this year, significantly enhancing the robot's movement capabilities and bringing it closer to human-like dexterity. A recent video released by Tesla showcases Optimus performing various tasks autonomously, with a marked improvement in walking speed over the past few months.
