Nothing Introduces Exciting Refreshes to Earbud Lineup

Today, Nothing unveiled two new additions to its earbud lineup. Although the naming might be a bit confusing, the Nothing Ear is an upgrade to the Nothing Ear (2), while the Nothing Ear (a) serves as a spiritual successor to the Nothing Ear Stick.

The standout news from this launch is Nothing's integration of ChatGPT into their latest earbuds. As the competition heats up among "AI smartphones" like Humane's Ai Pin and Rabbit R1, this London-based mobile company has taken a leap forward by incorporating AI technology directly into their earbuds.

Specifically, if you have the ChatGPT app installed on a compatible Nothing device, you can interact with the AI by simply pinching the headphones’ stem. This feature provides a unique Siri/Google Assistant/Alexa-like experience through your earbuds, leveraging OpenAI's immensely popular platform.

“Nothing will enhance the user experience on Nothing smartphones by integrating system-level entry points to ChatGPT, including screenshot sharing and custom widgets,” the company stated. This innovative feature will be exclusive to both new models.

Nothing Ear (1) Review

Preorders for the earbuds begin today. Nothing claims that these latest models offer superior sound quality compared to their predecessors, thanks to a revamped driver system. This improvement also allows for a larger battery, resulting in up to 25% more battery life than the Ear (2). Additionally, a “smart” active noise-canceling feature adapts to environmental noise and mitigates sound leakage between the earbuds and ear canal.

Both the Ear and Ear (a) come with enhanced noise-canceling capabilities. However, the bright yellow color of the Ear (a) is one of the most promoted features, which breaks with the traditional black and white design aesthetic of previous models.

The Nothing Ear is priced at $149, while the Ear (a) is available for $99. Shipping is set to start on April 22.
