Gemini Nano Set to Launch on Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a

Google's Gemini Nano AI model is set to debut on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a, allowing users to access advanced features at a more affordable price. Recently, Google has introduced access to Large Language Models (LLM) and Gemini Nano in the developer options of these devices. Users can expect to enable this functionality during the Pixel Feature Drop scheduled for early June.

Designed specifically for smartphones, Gemini Nano was initially exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro and quickly captured user interest. This model operates without an internet connection, generating AI summaries for conversations, interviews, and lectures while accurately transcribing lengthy audio recordings. Google also plans to enhance Gemini Nano's capabilities throughout the year, enabling better understanding of visual information and alerting users to suspicious financial activities.

The exclusive availability of this AI technology in the Pixel 8 Pro sparked dissatisfaction among Pixel 8 users. In response, Google announced in late March that LLM features for the Pixel 8 would soon be available. Additionally, reports indicate that the mid-range Pixel 8a will also gain access to Gemini Nano, priced at half that of the Pixel 8 Pro while offering premium features such as "audio magic eraser," "live translation," and offline "find my tracker" support.

According to Android Authority, the developer options in the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a will include a hidden switch for the LLM feature. Unlike the Pixel 8 Pro, where Gemini Nano is enabled by default, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a users will need to manually activate it in "Settings" → "Developer Options" → "AICore Settings."

While Google has not officially confirmed support for Gemini Nano on the Pixel 8 and 8a, the functionality toggle is expected to be available soon. Google updates Pixel features quarterly, with the last update released on March 4, so the next one is anticipated in early June.

Once the switch is live, users can access the developer options to enable Gemini Nano. Additionally, Gemini Nano will extend its capabilities to Google Chrome, enhancing the browsing experience.

In summary, the Pixel 8a, featuring a brighter display, faster processor, and larger battery, not only stands out as a powerful smartphone but also as one of the market's longest-lasting options at $500, perfectly blending speed and intelligence for users.
