Google recently announced that its chatbot Bard has officially been renamed to "Gemini," a change that may pose an even greater threat to OpenAI.
Sissie Hsiao, Google's Vice President and General Manager of the Assistant business, stated in a blog post, "The mission behind launching Bard has always been to enable users to access our AI models directly. With Gemini, we present the most powerful series of models we have." As part of this transition, Bard will now be known as Gemini.
Additionally, Google has introduced a paid version called Gemini Advanced, available for $19.99 per month. This version supports the Ultra 1.0 model and is designed to handle more complex tasks and commands, including programming, logical reasoning, following precise instructions, and engaging in creative collaboration, positioning it as a competitor to OpenAI.
Jack Krawczyk, the product lead for Gemini, revealed that Gemini Advanced has launched in English across 150 countries and regions, with plans to expand into the Asia-Pacific and Latin American markets next week.
