HP’s revived OmniBook line is set to receive a significant performance upgrade with the new HP OmniBook Ultra. This model features an AMD Ryzen AI 300-series processor, integrated AMD Radeon 800M graphics, and supports up to 32GB of RAM. It includes two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, enhancing its connectivity options. Priced at $1,449.99 and available from August, the OmniBook Ultra will soon offer a free software update, making it one of the first Copilot Plus PCs not reliant on an ARM-based processor.
The OmniBook branding made a comeback in May with the HP OmniBook X AI, which utilizes an ARM-based Snapdragon X Elite processor. While the JX Elite’s neural processing unit (NPU) supports 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS), the new AMD Ryzen AI 300 series promises up to 55 TOPS, offering enhanced performance.
As an x86-based processor, the Ryzen AI 300 series also ensures improved compatibility with a broader range of Windows applications, addressing potential emulation issues present in devices with the Snapdragon X Elite.
Both the OmniBook models sport 14-inch, 2240 x 1400-pixel LCD touchscreens. However, the Ultra model boasts several upgrades, including a 9MP webcam and quad speakers with DTS:X Ultra support, compared to the X AI’s stereo system. Weighing in at 3.48 pounds, the Ultra is slightly heavier than its predecessor due to its larger 68Wh battery. Nevertheless, it offers a slightly lower battery life, reaching up to 13 hours of average use and up to 21 hours of local video playback.
Although the OmniBook Ultra will not launch as a Copilot Plus PC, HP plans to roll out a free update in the future, with timing and availability contingent on Microsoft.
