Humane's AI Pin Priced at $699 is Now Available for Purchase

Humane has officially launched its first product, the Ai Pin. This innovative hardware startup from the Bay Area has been developing its technology since 2017, motivated by the vision of co-founders Bethany Bongiorno and Imran Chaudhri, who both previously worked at Apple. With a robust funding of $230 million, the company has concentrated on creating standalone AI devices.

The Ai Pin is the inaugural product in what Humane envisions as a series of devices designed to leverage the capabilities of generative AI platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. This device integrates a variety of LLM-based systems, aiming to utilize the most suitable platform for each specific task.

In a conversation with Bongiorno and Chaudhri, we delved into the company’s journey and its future aspirations. We also had the opportunity to test the Ai Pin hands-on. While it still exhibits some first-generation challenges in reliability and functionality, the hardware showcases a meticulous attention to detail that reflects its founders' backgrounds.

Humane envisions the $699 Ai Pin as a groundbreaking device that transcends the limitations of traditional technology. The aim is to create a voice-driven, always-connected gadget that encourages users to occasionally look away from their phone screens.

During our discussion, Bongiorno shared a moment that inspired the co-founders to develop the Ai Pin. She recalled, “We attended a dinner where a family nearby was glued to their phones the entire time. This sparked a conversation about the fantastic tool we've created, alongside its potential drawbacks.”

The Ai Pin marks the start of what will likely be a series of products capitalizing on the generative AI trend. At CES in January, Rabbit showcased its eye-catching R1 handheld, and at MWC the following month, Brain.AI unveiled a concept phone that integrates generative AI as the backbone of its unique operating system. This emerging sector is already proving itself varied, even as traditional smartphone sales face challenges.

At a price point of $699, you'll receive the Ai Pin, an additional battery, and an AI charging case. Color variations start at $799, and numerous accessories are available, priced between $29 and $49. Additionally, a subscription service will cost $24 per month, although Humane offers three complimentary months with each Ai Pin purchase.
