At WWDC 2024, Apple unveiled the developer beta of iOS 18, introducing a host of exciting new features. Among these, user @rjonesy discovered a convenient hidden capability: users can perform mathematical calculations directly within any text field, eliminating the need to open the calculator app.
When entering equations in messaging apps or notes, iOS 18 automatically recognizes the input and displays the result. Users have the option to view just the final answer or the entire calculation process, making everyday computations more accessible and efficient.
Additionally, Apple has launched a new app for iPadOS called "Math Notes," which allows users to handwrite mathematical equations and receive quick answers. These updates reflect Apple's commitment to enhancing the device's mathematical functionality.
Currently, iOS 18 is available only for developer testing, with general users expected to gain access next month during the public beta launch or with the official release in the fall.
