NVIDIA is strategically pivoting its focus toward enterprise solutions, reducing its reliance on the competitive consumer graphics market. The company recently introduced the NVIDIA EGX Edge Supercomputing Platform, which integrates NVIDIA's CUDA-X software with certified GPU servers. This technology is supported by Microsoft on Azure and Azure AI applications and has been adopted by major corporations such as Walmart, Samsung, and BMW, along with cities like Las Vegas and San Francisco.
For instance, Walmart is utilizing the EGX platform in its Levittown, NY retail lab to enhance in-store operations. The system can instruct employees to retrieve shopping carts, restock produce and meat, open checkout lanes, and manage shelf inventory. According to NVIDIA, Walmart processes over 1.6 terabytes of data in real-time each second with this technology.
Samsung employs the EGX system for the design and manufacture of semiconductors, while BMW analyzes data from cameras and sensors to improve vehicle inspection processes. NVIDIA also offers a range of applications for the EGX platform, including NVIDIA Metropolis, which helps cities optimize traffic and pedestrian management. Additionally, the platform accelerates 5G network deployments, enabling new services in augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and gaming.
While these advancements may not cater directly to consumers, they significantly influence daily business operations. NVIDIA reports that more than 100 technology companies globally are currently using the EGX Edge Supercomputing Platform.
