Samsung smartphone users are set to receive a significant software update. On February 21, Samsung confirmed that several older smartphone models will gain access to Galaxy AI features through the One UI 6.1 update, scheduled for “late March.”
Galaxy AI was first introduced with the Galaxy S24 series launched in January, making it exclusive to those devices. However, the upcoming One UI 6.1 update will allow a broader range of users to experience these advanced AI tools. The following devices will receive the Galaxy AI toolkit in the March update:
- Samsung Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra
- Samsung Galaxy S23 FE
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S9, S9 Plus, and S9 Ultra
Among the new Galaxy AI features, several stand out. The "Circle to Search" function allows users to draw a circle or doodle to initiate searches based on what they see on their devices. Additional features include translation tools for face-to-face and phone conversations, a powerful AI photo editor, and a “Chat Assist” feature to help adjust the tone of messages. While the effectiveness of these features may vary, users will still enjoy their convenience.
Samsung has also indicated that its Galaxy AI features will eventually come with a fee, though specifics on pricing and timing have yet to be announced. Fortunately, for the foreseeable future, all features will remain free for use on both the Galaxy S24 and devices that receive the One UI 6.1 update.
