Samsung announced that the Galaxy S24’s AI features will be available for last year's models, including foldables and tablets, starting in late March 2024. This confirmation follows reports that the AI suite would soon roll out to the Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Tab S9.
The upcoming software update will include various AI tools from the Galaxy S24 series, enhancing communication and productivity. Communication features will comprise:
- Chat Assist: Adjusts tone and translates messages
- Live Translate: Offers real-time voice and text translations
- Interpreter: Provides split-screen translation for in-person conversations
Productivity tools will include:
- Circle to Search: Enables search by drawing a ring around content on the screen
- Note Assist: Formats, summarizes, and translates notes
- Browsing Assist: Summarizes news articles
- Transcript Assist: Transcribes and summarizes meeting recordings
Image-based AI features will also be available, such as:
- Generative Edit: Reframes images, shifts subjects, or deletes and replaces elements
- Edit Suggestion: Offers image enhancement recommendations
- Instant Slow-Mo: Generates extra frames to convert regular videos into slow-motion
The devices set to receive these updates in March include the Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Tab S9. Samsung anticipates expanding this rollout to over 100 million Galaxy users throughout 2024, with continued innovations in mobile AI.
In a review of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, tech media outlets’s Sam Rutherford stated that while AI integration may not seem groundbreaking, it significantly enhances the device's overall capabilities. He noted that most AI tools, despite some minor issues at launch, provide valuable support to the device’s high-end specifications. He highlighted Samsung's advancements in AI features as strong competition to Google’s offerings, achieving substantial functionality despite slight differences in polish.
