Apple has launched the first public beta of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, allowing users to explore new features ahead of the official release in October. Those enrolled in the public beta program can easily download the update by going to the "Software Update" section in the Settings app.
This update introduces exciting Apple Intelligence features. While some AI functionalities are still in development, the public beta provides several enhancements, including advanced writing tools, improvements to Siri, article summarization, and smart replies. However, these features are exclusively available for iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, and M-series Macs and iPads.
Key Features of the Update:
- Writing Tools: These tools enhance any editable text area with capabilities like spell-check, grammar correction, text rewriting, and summary generation.
- Siri Enhancements: The new Siri interface includes a "Type with Siri" option, letting users receive responses without speaking. Siri now understands non-fluent expressions, ensuring context remains consistent.
- Safari Smart Summaries: The Safari browser generates concise article summaries and includes a "Reduce Distractions" mode to highlight essential notifications.
- Smart Replies: Available in Messages and Mail, smart replies emphasize time-sensitive information within the Mail app.
- New Photo Features: The upgraded "Memories" function allows users to create slideshows from text descriptions and provides tools for removing unwanted elements from photos.
- Call Recording and Transcription: Users can record and transcribe phone calls, with recordings conveniently stored in the Notes app. Summary generation stands out as a feature of Apple Intelligence.
- Spatial Photo Capabilities: The update enhances the photography experience for iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max users with spatial photo capabilities.
