Adobe has emerged as a pioneer in the generative AI space, launching its commercially-safe Firefly AI image generator and editing model in March 2023. As it marks the one-year anniversary of Firefly and the release of Firefly 2, Adobe introduces GenStudio, a new application designed for enterprise users and brands to create and manage generative AI assets for digital campaigns.
Enhanced Control with Structure Reference
One of the standout features announced at Adobe Summit 2024 is “Structure Reference.” This tool allows users of the Firefly text-to-image generator to upload an image that guides the arrangement of objects and characters in new creations. Now, users can maintain control over the layout while experimenting with different styles and content.
GenStudio: A Central Hub for Brands
GenStudio simplifies campaign planning and execution within Adobe's Creative Cloud suite. It offers a comprehensive set of tools for managing marketing content, activating digital experiences, and analyzing performance. Integrated with Adobe Workfront, GenStudio enables users to track campaigns, manage project briefs, and view task assignments. The application ensures that marketing assets remain on-brand and audience-centric, providing alerts and suggestions for adherence to brand standards.
Introducing the Adobe Experience Platform AI Assistant
Adobe also unveiled the Adobe Experience Platform AI Assistant, designed to boost productivity through a conversational interface. This assistant can answer technical queries, automate tasks, and help organizations generate targeted audiences and journeys.
Innovations in Firefly’s Functionality
During a recent demonstration, Adobe’s vice president of generative AI, Alexandru Costin, showcased how the Structure Reference feature functions. Users can upload an image, such as a rock formation, and request a new creation like “a castle in a forest.” The generated image will mirror the original’s layout and proportions, regardless of stylistic differences.
For example, when a living room image was used as a reference, a prompt for “cathedral” produced a cathedral-like living room with stained glass windows. This functionality is invaluable for artists and designers, offering greater control over AI outputs beyond text or style prompts.
Who Benefits from Structure Reference?
This feature particularly benefits creative professionals tasked with maintaining consistency across designs, whether in marketing campaigns or film storyboarding. Unlike other AI models that produce varied outputs for similar prompts, Adobe’s Structure Reference aims to provide repeatability and precision.
While some Firefly capabilities are integrated into other Adobe applications, the Structure Reference feature is exclusive to the Firefly app for now. Adobe positions Firefly as a commercially safe option by training the model solely on licensed images from Adobe Stock, addressing enterprise concerns around legal usage.
Despite some discontent among Adobe Stock contributors regarding the training of Firefly with their images, Adobe's approach of ensuring legal compliance offers a unique value proposition for enterprises looking to leverage AI-driven creativity.
