After a lengthy outage early this morning, OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot faced another disruption, this time accompanied by two other prominent AI platforms. On Tuesday morning, both Anthropic’s Claude and Perplexity experienced service issues, albeit resolved more swiftly.
Currently, Google’s Gemini seems to be functioning well; however, it may have experienced a brief downtime, as noted by some users.
It's uncommon for three leading AI services to be down simultaneously, which could suggest a larger infrastructure challenge or a widespread internet issue similar to those that affect multiple social media platforms at once. It’s also conceivable that the troubles faced by Claude and Perplexity stemmed from an influx of traffic due to ChatGPT’s outage, rather than technical glitches.
During this disruption, ChatGPT users were unable to engage with the AI on its main page. The outage commenced around 7:33 AM PT and concluded by 10:17 AM PT, marking another extended period of unavailability.
At one point, visitors to ChatGPT's website received a playful notification indicating that the service was at capacity—displayed in pirate lingo—and offering to notify users once the service was restored.
Claude's website showed an error message stating: “An error occurred in the Server Components render. The specific message is omitted in production builds to avoid leaking sensitive details. A digest property is included on this error instance which may provide additional details about the nature of the error,” followed by a suggestion to “try again.”
Claude resumed operations sometime after 12:10 PM ET.
Perplexity’s site also displayed an over-capacity message, stating, “We’ll be right back. We’re getting a lot of questions right now, and we have reached our capacity. Please come back soon.” The service resumed functioning shortly after Claude was restored, but there have been intermittent access issues since.
It's worth noting that ChatGPT had only recently recovered from a prior outage that left users without service overnight. Complaints about the chatbot's unavailability poured in across platforms like X and Threads in the early morning hours (Pacific Time). The company’s status page indicated that a bug was being addressed and that the situation was under observation as of 12:21 AM PT.
By 7:33 AM PT, the status page updated to reveal that ChatGPT was again inaccessible to some users, with OpenAI stating they were “currently investigating this issue.” By 12:28 PM ET, the chatbot was still marked down on its status page, categorized as a “major outage.” The disruption was resolved several hours later.
The affected AI providers have not yet responded to inquiries for comments or further details regarding the outages, but we will provide updates as new information becomes available.
Furthermore, these AI outages are part of a broader trend of online disruptions. Forbes reports a zero-day spam attack currently impacting TikTok, affecting select celebrity and brand accounts, including those of Paris Hilton and CNN.
