Amazon Brings Just Walk Out Tech to NFL Stadiums & Colleges, Apple Launches iPhone 16 for AI; Apple Intelligence to Enhance Product Lineup

Amazon has expanded its innovative Just Walk Out technology to various NFL football stadiums and college campuses with the start of the football season and the new academic year. This checkout-free system, powered by AI and launched in 2018, is now present at approximately two dozen new locations, including stores at Commanders Field in Washington, D.C., and Lumen Field in Seattle. At Lumen Field, a radio-frequency identification (RFID) store has also been introduced to facilitate the purchase of soft items like clothing and fan gear. The Baltimore Ravens' M&T Bank Stadium will be hosting its first Just Walk Out location as well.

Apple recently announced the iPhone 16, equipped with Apple Intelligence, marking the introduction of artificial intelligence across its product line. The personal intelligence system is designed to provide relevant and helpful insights while prioritizing user privacy. Set to debut next month with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, additional features will be rolled out in the future.

Volvo has extended its partnership with Nvidia to utilize their chips in upcoming vehicles, including the newly launched EX90 electric SUV. Positioned as Volvo's first software-defined vehicle, the EX90 features the Nvidia Orin system-on-a-chip capable of over 250 trillion operations per second. The integration of Nvidia Drive Orin OS enables various functions, from AI-based safety features to advancements in autonomous driving capabilities.

Ahead of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), controversy emerged as the organization declined to condemn the use of AI writing tools in the creative writing process. NaNoWriMo, established in 1999 and organized as a U.S.-based nonprofit since 2005, drew attention as generative AI's influence on creative endeavors grew. Participants expressed a desire for clarity regarding NaNoWriMo's stance on AI, leading to discussions surrounding privilege, classism, and ableism in the use of technology within the writing community.
