Advanced Micro Devices Unveils New GPUs for 2024 Gaming
AMD has launched its latest graphics processing units (GPUs), the AMD Radeon 7600 XT (16GB) and AMD Radeon 7600 (8GB), targeting gamers looking to enhance their setups ahead of the 2024 gaming season. Unveiled at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, these GPUs cater to budget-conscious players who may not have updated their hardware recently.
Current data reveals that 50% of PC gamers experience suboptimal performance, struggling to run demanding titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Starfield, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora at the ideal 60 frames per second (FPS) on 1080p resolution. The new Radeon GPUs aim to change that.
The 7600 XT is up to 1.9 times faster than the GeForce RTX 2060 in certain games at 1080p, supporting 1440p resolution. Both models feature 32 compute units, ray accelerators, and 64 AI accelerators, but the 7600 XT operates at 2.47 GHz, while the 7600 runs at 2.25 GHz. With 18 Gbps memory speed and a 128-bit memory bus, the 7600 XT offers double the graphics memory compared to the 7600.
Power consumption rates are 190 watts for the 7600 XT and 165 watts for the 7600. Notably, these GPUs can run games like Starfield at 60 FPS in 1440p. The 7600 XT will be available on January 24 for $329, while the 7600 will launch in May for $269. Key partners for the launch include Acer, ASRock, Asus, Gigabyte, PowerColor, Sapphire, and XFX.
Introducing AMD Ryzen 8040 Series Processors
AMD is also set to release the AMD Ryzen 8040 Series processors, featuring advanced neural processing units based on AMD XDNA architecture and central processing units built on Zen 4 technology. These will be the first desktop processors with a dedicated AI engine, delivering a combined 39 TFLOPs of processing power. The integration of AI promises enhancements in performance, security, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, with over 100 optimized experiences for Ryzen AI already available.
The Ryzen 8000G Series can deliver superior desktop graphics performance, achieving fluid gameplay when paired with Radeon 700M Series graphics. AMD claims its processor runs Hitman 3 up to four times faster than the Intel Core i7-14700K with Intel graphics.
AMD currently leads in AI processing on the client front, as the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U outperforms the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H in various benchmarks: it's 1.43 times faster at Yolov8, 1.79 times faster at Deeplabv3, and 1.04 times faster at MobileNetv3. In StableDiffusion tasks, it achieves a 1.06 times speed increase over the Core Ultra 7 155H.
In gaming performance, the Ryzen 7 8840U with Radeon 780M graphics is anywhere from 1.02 to 1.6 times faster than its Intel counterpart with Intel Arc graphics. Additionally, the Ryzen 5000 Series offers a range of processors for the AM4 platform, designed especially for gamers, with prices ranging from $125 to $249.
