Apple Announces Future Collaboration with Google’s Gemini Project

During the keynote presentation at WWDC 2024, Apple unveiled its exciting new feature, Apple Intelligence, and announced a groundbreaking partnership that integrates ChatGPT access into Siri through a collaboration with OpenAI. SVP Craig Federighi shared that Apple plans to expand its partnerships, expressing interest in collaborating with additional third-party models. He mentioned, “We’re eager to explore integrations with other models, including Google Gemini, for instance, in the future,” during a discussion following the keynote. He added, “While we don’t have any specific announcements at this time, that’s the general direction we’re heading.”

OpenAI’s ChatGPT will be the first third-party model integrated into Siri later this year. Apple assures users they'll have access to this feature without needing to create an account or subscribe to premium services. Regarding this integration in the upcoming iOS 18 version of Siri, Federighi emphasized that Siri will notify users before redirecting them to external models.

"Now you can interact with Siri directly, without going through any other tools,” said Federighi. “It's crucial to understand that Siri will prompt you before connecting to ChatGPT. You can engage in a conversation with ChatGPT, and if your question includes any relevant data, like a photo, we’ll ask, ‘Do you want to send this photo?’ From a privacy perspective, you remain in control and have complete transparency throughout the process.”
