Apple Revamps Siri with Advanced AI Features

Siri received an exciting upgrade at Apple’s WWDC 2024 in Cupertino, as part of the company’s ambitious initiative, Apple Intelligence, which centers around generative AI. The new Siri is designed to be more conversational, relevant, and personalized, showcasing a refreshed appearance, including an updated icon. When activated, the assistant illuminates with a glowing light that elegantly wraps around the edges of your device’s screen.

With the enhancements from Apple Intelligence, Siri is now better equipped to understand speech nuances and context. Users can also interact with Siri through text, enabling it to assist with queries about using your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Upcoming features promise to make Siri even more intuitive, such as onscreen awareness. For instance, when a friend shares their address, you’ll be able to command Siri to “add this address to contact card,” and it will handle the task seamlessly—assuming the feature operates as intended.

Moreover, Siri will have the capability to perform actions across various applications. You might ask Siri to “make this photo pop,” followed by another command to “add this photo” to a different app. This functionality is powered by the new App Intents API, which allows developers to integrate Siri's actions into their apps while enhancing its understanding of your personal context, including messages, calendar events, files, and photos.

The depth of these capabilities is impressive. Apple illustrated this by showcasing how Siri can locate a photo of your driver's license, extract the ID number, and input it into an online form for you.

While it's still uncertain when we'll see many of these advanced Siri features implemented on devices, we do know that Apple Intelligence will be accessible only on the iPhone 15 Pro and devices with M1 or newer processors. Stay tuned for more updates as WWDC unfolds!
