Announced at Meta Connect 2024 on Wednesday, Meta is unveiling an exciting new virtual reality app called Hyperscape. This innovative app allows users to explore detailed recreations of real-world spaces directly through a Quest headset.
Currently available in beta in the U.S., Hyperscape will soon enable users to scan their own rooms using a smartphone, allowing for personalized virtual experiences. You'll also have the option to enter rooms scanned and shared by others.
During the event, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg showcased a “hyperscape” of the iconic rock band Green Day’s studio, highlighting the app’s impressive capabilities.
“We’re introducing photorealistic environments to the metaverse through Hyperscape,” Zuckerberg stated. “It’s truly remarkable, and we’re committed to continuously expanding these immersive experiences.”
A detailed blog post from Meta elaborates on the technology behind Hyperscape: “Using Gaussian Splatting, a cutting-edge 3D volume rendering technique, we leverage cloud rendering and streaming to make these spaces accessible on the standalone Quest 3 headset.” Looking ahead, creators will have the opportunity to design their own worlds within our VR platform, Horizon.
Hyperscape is fully compatible with both the Quest 3 and Quest 3S, making it accessible for a wide array of users eager to dive into this new virtual reality experience.
