OpenAI's Spring Update event featured the advanced voice mode for ChatGPT, which recently made headlines due to its interaction with Scarlett Johansson. OpenAI announced that it will need an additional month to prepare for the alpha version of this new voice mode, initially available to a select group of ChatGPT Plus subscribers, with broader access expected for all Plus customers in the fall.
One key improvement focuses on the assistant's ability to detect and refuse certain types of content. As for the anticipated video and screen-sharing features showcased during the event, OpenAI stated that updates will be provided as they finalize the timeline. The company noted that delivery timelines depend on meeting high safety and reliability standards.
The demonstration highlighted how the GPT-4o-powered assistant could interact in real-time, responding to its environment and maintaining more natural conversations with impressive expressiveness, which CEO Sam Altman described as “human-level response times.”
Additionally, the desktop app for macOS has launched today, allowing users to easily access ChatGPT by pressing Option and Space simultaneously, facilitating conversations about whatever is on their screens. A Windows version is expected later this year.
