Diabetes management has become more convenient with the introduction of the Dexcom G7 glucose monitor, which now connects directly to Apple Watch in the U.S. This advancement allows individuals to monitor their blood sugar levels confidently, even when their iPhone is not nearby—a crucial feature for diabetes patients. Previously, managing glucose levels required constant attention; low levels could lead to fainting, while high levels could pose even greater risks. Thanks to advancements in glucose monitoring technology, diabetes management is now significantly easier.
The Dexcom G7 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System is the first and only CGM offering direct integration with Apple Watch. This functionality provides users with real-time glucose readings on their wrist, empowering them to engage in activities like running or dining out without needing their iPhone.
“At Dexcom, our users are at the heart of everything we do. Direct to Apple Watch has been one of our most requested features, and we’re thrilled to roll it out to Dexcom G7 users in the U.S. and around the world,” said Jake Leach, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Dexcom. “We believe people with diabetes should access their CGM data wherever and however they choose. Direct to Apple Watch is a testament to this belief, giving individuals flexibility in managing their health.”
The Dexcom G7 glucose monitor utilizes a dedicated Bluetooth connection to transmit glucose data and personalized alerts directly to the Apple Watch. This innovative capability enables users to enjoy their daily routines with peace of mind, regardless of whether they carry their iPhone. Dexcom G7 is unique in that it can display glucose data on multiple devices simultaneously, including smartphones, smartwatches, receivers, or connected automated insulin delivery systems.
Additionally, users can monitor other essential health metrics that influence glucose levels through Apple’s Activity, Cycle Tracking, Sleep, and various health features available on Apple Watch, iPhone, and iPad. All this information is safely stored in the Health app, allowing convenient access to comprehensive diabetes management data. Apple prioritizes privacy, granting users full control over their health information.
“Using Direct to Apple Watch with Dexcom G7 has been a game changer for me,” shared Dexcom Warrior Beth McDaniel from Northern Ireland. “For the first time since my diagnosis, I can leave my phone at home, enjoying my daily activities with confidence, knowing I have the information I need to manage my diabetes effectively.”
Direct to Apple Watch is now available for Dexcom G7 users in the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland, with more markets set to launch later this month. To use this feature, users must ensure they have the Dexcom G7 app version 2.1, an Apple Watch Series 6 or later running watchOS 10 or later, and an iPhone with iOS 17 or later.
