Discord is set to discontinue its AI chatbot, Clyde, less than a year after its launch. The support page has announced that Clyde will be deactivated at the end of this month. Introduced in March as an experimental feature powered by OpenAI technology, the chatbot was designed to assist users within server environments.
"By December 1, 2023, users will no longer be able to invoke Clyde in DMs, Group DMs, or server chats," states the announcement. Clyde was intended to serve as an AI helper for fun interactions, allowing users to play games and share jokes. However, its rollout was not uniform, leading some users to report that their servers never gained access to the bot. Additionally, discussions on the Discord subreddit revealed that Clyde could be easily prompted to use inappropriate language.
Regardless of the reasons for its discontinuation, Clyde will officially cease to exist by December. In the past year, Discord has introduced other AI features, including moderation tools, conversation summaries, and avatar editing, to enhance the user experience.
