Google is making waves at its I/O developer conference with rapid announcements, highlighting its advancements in machine learning. The tech giant introduced the LaMDA 2 conversational AI model alongside its innovative app, AI Test Kitchen, which features three engaging demos.
1. Brainstorming Tool: The first demo acts as a brainstorming assistant, prompting users with imaginative scenarios. For instance, when asked to "Imagine if" the user responded with "I'm at the deepest part of the ocean," the app generated a vivid description of the user in a submarine at the Marianas Trench.
2. Contextual Conversations: The second feature showcases LaMDA 2's ability to maintain topic relevance during conversations. In the demonstration, the app initiated discussion with, "Have you ever wondered why dogs like to play fetch so much?" It adeptly responded to follow-up questions like "Why is that?" with detailed insights about dogs and their sense of smell.
3. Complex Goal Breakdown: The third function, called "List It," allows users to tackle complex goals. By asking, "I want to learn the ukulele" or "I want to grow a garden," users receive tailored lists of subtasks to kick-start their projects. For example, in addition to suggesting plants suitable for small gardens, AI Test Kitchen may provide actionable steps and relevant weather considerations.
CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted that the app serves to collect valuable feedback on the LaMDA model. Google plans to gradually expand access to AI Test Kitchen, involving a diverse range of stakeholders, from AI researchers to human rights advocates. Insights gained will inform future iterations of LaMDA, with intentions to continuously integrate emerging AI technologies into the platform.
