Explore Google's New AI-Powered Scrapbook Feature in Photos: Discover the Memories View

Google Photos is unveiling an exciting new way to relive and share your cherished memories with the launch of a revamped Memories view, available today for users in the United States. This innovative feature allows you to save your favorite memories or create custom collections from scratch, forming a scrapbook-like timeline that captures your most unforgettable trips, celebrations, and everyday moments with loved ones.

This enhancement builds on the existing Memories function, which has been a staple of Google Photos for four years. The current feature provides a carousel at the top of the app, enabling users to revisit significant moments from the past through a format reminiscent of Stories and Facebook Memories. Remarkably, more than half a billion users engage with the Memories feature monthly.

The new Memories view takes your nostalgia to the next level, offering a more personalized approach to showcasing your favorite moments. You'll have the flexibility to add or remove specific photos and even curate a Memories view entirely on your own, independent of the automatic selections made by the app. Additionally, you can rename your Memories view to reflect something personal instead of the generic titles provided by Google Photos, such as "Best of August 2013."

An experimental feature from Google Labs enhances this experience by utilizing generative AI to suggest creative titles for your Memories view. You can access this feature via the “Help me title” button. If the AI-generated titles don’t resonate with you, you can customize them or provide specific hints using the “Add hint” button. Google emphasizes that your feedback will help the AI improve over time. However, note that this AI functionality is currently available only to select accounts in the U.S.

Along with curating your own Memories timeline, you can collaborate with friends and family by inviting them to contribute their favorite photos and videos, similar to Shared Albums. The final result will be a scrapbook-like collection that you can easily share on social media platforms. Additionally, there are plans to introduce options for sharing this content as videos, indicating Google’s intention to integrate with popular short-form video platforms like YouTube Shorts and TikTok.

This exciting feature is being rolled out in the U.S. first, with plans for a global launch in the upcoming months.
