Google has expanded its Gemini Live conversational AI voice chat to additional languages, including French, German, Portuguese, Hindi, and Spanish. While many users can expect these languages to be available soon, Google has provided vague timelines regarding other upcoming features. The company anticipates that the newly supported languages will be fully accessible to all users within a couple of weeks. Additionally, Google aims to offer support for over 40 languages in the near future.
The swift rollout of Gemini Live, first introduced as a subscriber-only feature with the Pixel 9 series in mid-August, transitioned to a free feature for all Android users just a month later.
On the other hand, improvements for the Gemini virtual assistant's non-voice capabilities have progressed at a slower pace. Earlier this year, Google announced Gemini extensions for Calendar, Tasks, and Keep. Today's update reinforces this promise, highlighting that these extensions will enable users to perform tasks such as adding multiple dates from a flyer to a calendar or creating a shopping list from a recipe image. While these features are undoubtedly useful, their arrival is also expected "over the coming weeks."
