Generative AI Startup Typeface Expands Portfolio with Acquisition of Treat and Narrato

Typeface, a generative AI startup specializing in enterprise solutions, has expanded its portfolio by acquiring two innovative companies just over a year after securing $165 million at a valuation of $1 billion.

On Monday, Typeface announced the acquisition of Treat, an AI-driven platform that creates personalized photo products, and Narrato, a tool for AI-powered content creation and management.

According to a press release from Typeface, these acquisitions will “enhance [Typeface’s] multimodal capabilities” and advance its goal of transforming the entire content lifecycle. Typeface stated, “Leveraging our foundation of multimodal AI workflows, the high-caliber technology and talent from these acquisitions will significantly bolster our visual and textual capabilities. Integrating these innovations will supercharge the entire Typeface portfolio.”

Founded in 2022 by former Adobe CTO Abhay Parasnis, Typeface provides cutting-edge tools for text and image generation, as well as a fine-tuning engine that customizes AI to align with a brand’s unique style. The company emphasizes stronger brand governance and privacy compared to its rivals; Typeface ensures dedicated AI models for each customer, maintaining the confidentiality of their assets and activities.

So, how do Treat and Narrato align with Typeface’s vision? Both were established by entrepreneurs experienced in the enterprise market, and they offer appealing products suitable for Typeface's corporate clientele.

New York City-based Treat, co-founded by Matt Osman and ex-Drizly CTO Hugh Hunter, utilizes customer data to produce product images tailored for specific demographics. For instance, if data indicates that younger men respond better to advertisements featuring people eating the product, Treat will create an image showing someone enjoying fruit, enhancing the ad's effectiveness.

Meanwhile, Narrato, an Australian startup that also launched in 2022, provides organizations with access to an “AI content assistant” designed to streamline internal content creation and planning. Founder Sophia Solanki highlighted in a March interview that Narrato's offerings include collaboration tools and templates for various content types, such as articles, video scripts, blogs, and social media posts.

Before the acquisition, Treat had raised at least $8.5 million from investors like Greylock, while Narrato secured over $1 million from Airtree Ventures, OfBusiness, and serial entrepreneur Shreesha Ramdas. Both acquisitions’ financial details remain undisclosed.

With the addition of Treat and Narrato, Typeface has now made four strategic acquisitions. Earlier this year, the company acquired the AI photo and video editing suite TensorTour in January and the chatbot app Cypher in May. The financial impact of these deals on Typeface’s $165 million funding remains to be clarified.
