Google is expanding its AI platform by adding more third-party models to provide enterprise customers with greater flexibility in app development. Following the integration of Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet into Vertex AI, Google announced the upcoming support for Mistral Small, Mistral Large, and Mistral Codestral this July. Developers will access these models through the Vertex AI Model Garden.
To strengthen its appeal to organizations, Google aims to equip its Vertex platform with top-tier tools and models. Acknowledging that its Gemini models may not be the first choice for everyone, Google is incorporating widely-used large language models (LLMs), including Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet, praised for its competitive edge. By adding Mistral’s well-regarded models, Vertex AI customers will have a choice among a small language model, a large language model, and a code-generating LLM starting this summer.
This collaboration with Mistral isn’t new; in 2023, the two formed a partnership that integrated Mistral-7B into Vertex AI Notebooks, which data scientists and machine learning engineers use for workflow management. However, this time, Mistral Small, Large, and Codestral will be accessible to all developers, not just those using Notebooks.
This development marks a significant win for Mistral, building on its recent $640 million fundraising success and solidifying its status as a trusted player in the AI space.
