How Intuit is Leveraging Agentic AI to Streamline Complex Business Task Automation

Intuit has announced significant enhancements to its Generative AI Operating System (GenOS) platform, introducing agentic AI workflows to strengthen its AI and data capabilities.

Renowned for its suite of business tools—including QuickBooks, TurboTax, Credit Karma, and Mailchimp—Intuit has been on a multi-year journey to integrate AI features that enhance user experience and productivity. At VB Transform 2024, Intuit detailed its generative AI initiatives aimed at improving personalization. One key development is Intuit Assist, an AI-powered assistant leveraging the GenOS platform. The company is now advancing this platform further with its commitment to agentic AI.

The GenOS framework is set to expand with improved security, usability, and functionalities tailored for agentic AI workflows. “It’s bringing together the power of GenOS, large language models, and GenSRF (Security, Risk, and Fraud) to fulfill what users desire: having tasks completed for them,” said Ashok Srivastava, Intuit’s Chief Data Officer, in an exclusive media interview. The new agentic AI features are currently in testing, with plans for rollout to end-users by mid-2025.

Automating Complex Business Tasks with Agentic AI

Intuit is prioritizing practical applications that tackle real-world business challenges. Srivastava identified cash flow management as a vital initial application for the new agentic AI workflows. Timely bill payments are crucial for any business, often contingent on available cash flow.

The advanced agentic workflows can analyze various customer data sources—emails, documents, and images—to automate accounts receivable and payable processes. “This technology streamlines accounts tasks and integrates multiple functions,” he explained. Nonetheless, Srivastava underscored the importance of human oversight in the automation process, stating, “We want human expertise involved.”

Enhancing Insights and Transparency with Agentic AI

In addition to cash flow management, Intuit is working on tools to deliver dynamic insights into financial health. “We’re generating real-time insights and responding to customer inquiries using an advanced conversational system built on GenOS,” said Srivastava. “This helps users understand their financial and tax situations, and compliance necessities.”

As AI integration in business operations increases, concerns surrounding security, transparency, and environmental impact have become more pronounced. Intuit is proactively addressing these issues through the GenSRF module, which is essential for responsible AI development. GenSRF operates alongside GenOS's runtime component to ensure AI safety.

“GenSRF features built-in guardrails for responsible development of generative AI applications. It is extensible and configurable, enabling safety, privacy, and transparency controls to be seamlessly incorporated into the user experience,” Srivastava explained.

Looking ahead, Intuit intends to continue enhancing GenOS and launching new capabilities based on customer feedback. A major focus will be the integration of traditional AI with generative AI technologies.

“As we observe trends globally, many are concentrating solely on generative and agentic AI. While that’s understandable, we are committed to a comprehensive approach that develops traditional AI capabilities to transform how our customers accomplish their tasks,” Srivastava concluded.
