Canva Raises Prices for Its Teams Product: What You Need to Know

Canva, the popular design platform, is implementing significant price increases for some of its users, citing generative AI advancements as a contributing factor.

In the U.S., subscribers on older Canva Teams pricing plans are facing drastic hikes, with the cost of a five-person plan soaring from $119.99 per year to $500 per year—though a 40% discount is available for the first year. In Australia, the monthly fee has shifted from a flat rate of $39.99 AUD (around $26 USD) for up to five users to $13.50 AUD for each individual user.

For individual users, Canva Teams pricing is now set at $100 per person, equivalent to $10 per month, with a minimum requirement of three users for a Teams plan. While these changes were previously applied to new customers, the recent adjustments also affect existing customers who benefitted from lower rates.

Notably, these price hikes do not extend to Canva’s Pro or Enterprise tiers. A Canva spokesperson confirmed the revised pricing in a statement, emphasizing the expansion of their generative AI tools, such as Magic Studio, as a reason behind the increase. They pointed out that customers were previously on obsolete pricing plans, as Canva had adjusted Teams pricing earlier this year to $10 per month per user.

“Our initial pricing reflected the early development stage of our product and has not changed for the past four years,” the spokesperson noted. “We are now updating the pricing for customers on older plans to better align with our enhanced product offerings.”

Many users have expressed dissatisfaction with Canva's price adjustments, especially since the changes were conveyed through customer emails rather than publicly, a departure from the more transparent communication methods used in the past.

This latest pricing strategy marks a shift away from Canva’s original position as a cost-effective alternative to design software like Adobe’s. Additionally, it may signal rapid growth challenges for the startup, which recently acquired U.K.-based graphic design firm Serif for approximately $380 million and, more recently, the generative AI image company Leonardo.

Correction: An earlier version of this article inaccurately reported the Canva Teams pricing for Australian customers. The correct figure is $13.50 per user per month, with a minimum of three users required.
