How Taco Bell's Drive-Thru AI Could Revolutionize Your Next Order

Your next Taco Bell drive-thru order might be processed by AI, technology that may have already contributed to your Chalupa experience. Parent company Yum! Brands is testing its “Voice AI” technology at over 100 Taco Bell locations in the U.S. and aims to expand to “hundreds” of stores by year's end. This AI system is designed to lighten staff workloads, enhance order accuracy, and decrease wait times, all while promoting profitable growth for Taco Bell and its franchisees.

The fast-food industry’s foray into AI has yielded mixed outcomes. While Wendy’s reported positive results from its trials, McDonald’s has recently scaled back its AI initiatives. With over 7,400 Taco Bell locations in the U.S., this initial rollout remains relatively small. The trials at more than 100 stores have been ongoing for about two years. Additionally, Yum! is introducing Voice AI to five KFC restaurants in Australia.
