Palo Alto Networks is set to acquire IBM’s advanced AI-powered security platform, QRadar. This innovative platform empowers organizations to monitor their entire security environments, leveraging multiple layers of AI to enhance alert systems and prioritize threats effectively. Under the terms of the agreement, Palo Alto Networks will gain various assets associated with QRadar, including vital intellectual property.
Customers currently using QRadar will have the option to migrate to Cortex XSIAM, Palo Alto Networks’ comprehensive security operations platform, at no cost after the deal closes. For businesses operating QRadar on-premises, IBM will continue to provide essential feature updates, including security enhancements and bug fixes. As part of the acquisition, IBM will receive additional compensation from Palo Alto Networks for existing QRadar on-premises clients who opt to transition to the Cortex XSIAM platform.
Nikesh Arora, CEO and Chair of Palo Alto Networks, emphasized the transformational impact of AI in the security sector: “The security industry is at an inflection point where AI will transform businesses and deliver outcomes not seen before. It's a moment to accelerate growth and innovation. Together with IBM, we will capitalize on this trend, merging our leading security solutions with IBM's pioneering watsonx AI platform to drive the future of security with holistic, AI-driven, secure-by-design offerings.”
The two companies are positioning this acquisition as a strategic partnership. Palo Alto Networks plans to integrate IBM’s watsonx suite of large language models into the Cortex XSIAM framework, enhancing its capabilities further. In this collaboration, IBM Consulting will be designated as the preferred managed security services provider for Palo Alto Networks customers. Furthermore, Palo Alto Networks’ cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions will be incorporated into IBM's Consulting Advantage AI services platform. More than 1,000 security consultants will undergo training on Palo Alto Networks products, ensuring optimal service delivery.
Additionally, Palo Alto Networks and IBM will jointly launch a Cyber Range, offering immersive experiences designed to familiarize customers with Palo Alto Networks’ security offerings. Arvind Krishna, IBM’s CEO and Chair, remarked, “Advanced threat protection and automation, enhanced by Cortex XSIAM and watsonx, coupled with IBM Consulting, will expedite client and partner adoption of next-generation security operations. We are committed to delivering these capabilities in collaboration with Palo Alto Networks, propelling our security investments and innovation in crucial areas like data security and identity and access management. These offerings are indispensable for our clients as they safeguard their data, hybrid cloud environments, AI models, and applications.”
This partnership symbolizes a significant stride forward in enhancing cybersecurity measures and is poised to set new standards in the industry, ensuring businesses are equipped to tackle existing and emerging threats effectively. The integration of AI-driven tools within security frameworks will undoubtedly change how organizations protect their digital assets in an increasingly complex threat landscape.
