IBM has introduced a cutting-edge generative AI-powered cybersecurity tool to enhance managed threat detection and response services. The IBM Consulting Cybersecurity Assistant is designed to expedite and optimize the identification, investigation, and response to critical security threats for clients. Leveraging IBM's watsonx data and AI platform, this assistant will be seamlessly integrated into IBM Consulting's threat detection and response practice and AI services platform, IBM Consulting Advantage.
Mark Hughes, the global managing partner of cybersecurity services at IBM Consulting, highlighted the evolving nature of cyber incidents, transforming from immediate crises to prolonged and multifaceted events. The IBM Cybersecurity Assistant aims to address the challenge of an overwhelming number of attacks with limited resources by autonomously executing tasks such as opening or summarizing tickets, running queries, pulling logs, explaining commands, and enriching threat intelligence.
Developed utilizing IBM's Granite foundation models, the assistant combines watsonx Assistant to provide a conversational chat interface, delivering real-time insights in a conversational manner to both clients and IBM security analysts. It has the capability to analyze historical correlations to auto-recommend actions, speeding up threat investigations. Additionally, the assistant can generate a timeline view of attack sequences to enhance analysts' understanding of critical threats and provide context for investigations.
IBM's Cybersecurity Assistant continuously learns from investigations, enhancing its speed and accuracy over time. This tool is an integral part of IBM's Threat Detection and Response Services, reportedly capable of automatically handling up to 85% of alerts. By introducing generative AI elements like this assistant, IBM aims to streamline the investigation process for the remaining alerts that require human intervention.
One of IBM's clients experienced a 48% reduction in alert investigation times with the implementation of this new tool. Mark Hughes believes that enhancing their Threat Detection and Response services with generative AI will empower security analysts to respond more proactively and precisely to critical threats, ultimately bolstering the overall security posture for clients.
This advancement underscores IBM's commitment to innovation in cybersecurity, showcasing the potential for generative AI to revolutionize threat detection and response processes.
