Introducing the $1 Billion 'AI Supercloud': Transforming Business AI Workloads for the Future

NexGen Cloud, headquartered in the U.K., is on the verge of launching an innovative ‘AI Supercloud’ service tailored for high-performance computing tailored specifically to artificial intelligence applications. This ambitious project is a direct response to the surging demand for robust computing resources amidst the rapid advancement of generative AI technologies. The Supercloud platform is set to provide cost-effective access to GPU cloud services, catering primarily to European businesses and startups.

With a substantial commitment of $1 billion earmarked for the project, NexGen has already allocated approximately $576 million for crucial hardware acquisitions. This includes over 20,000 H100 GPUs from Nvidia, expected to be delivered by June 2024, which will serve as the backbone of the Supercloud infrastructure. The AI Supercloud will be accessible through NexGen’s newly introduced Hyperstack platform, a GPU-accelerated cloud environment leveraging Nvidia’s technology. This platform enables European users to access computing resources directly, ensuring swift and efficient operations.

According to NexGen Cloud CEO Chris Starkey, the Supercloud initiative will “empower businesses to gain competitive advantages in the next evolution of technology.” This project aligns seamlessly with an escalating trend of solutions developed to address the burgeoning need for AI-centric hardware. Recent launches in the sector include Hugging Face’s Training Cluster as a Service and the U.S. government’s significant reduction in rental costs for the Perlmutter supercomputer.

The remarkable demand for hardware capable of supporting AI applications is underscored by recent market activity, as Nvidia reported an impressive shipment of around 900 tons of H100 GPUs in the second quarter, a clear indication of the market’s robust appetite for advanced computing solutions.
