OpenAI Expands Globally: New Offices Opening in Singapore, Paris, and Brussels

OpenAI recently announced on X that it is expanding globally by opening new offices in key cities including New York City, Seattle, Paris, Brussels, and Singapore. This expansion strategy complements its existing offices in San Francisco, London, Dublin, and Tokyo, highlighting the company's commitment to global outreach.

This strategic growth follows a substantial $6.6 billion funding round, alongside a corporate restructuring and several executive changes.

Oliver Jay, the new managing director and former chief revenue officer at Asana, will lead international operations and support global expansion from Singapore. An OpenAI spokesperson shared that the company has begun assembling a team in Singapore, which will serve as a pivotal hub for supporting customers and partners throughout the Asia Pacific region. OpenAI is actively hiring engineers and plans to officially open the Singapore office by the end of this year, marking its second office in Asia after the Tokyo launch in April.

OpenAI noted that Singapore boasts one of the highest per capita usage rates of ChatGPT globally, with the number of weekly active users in the city doubling since the start of the year.

To further enhance its presence in the region, OpenAI is collaborating with AI Singapore to broaden access to its AI technologies across Southeast Asia. Initiated in 2017 by the National Research Foundation (NRF), AI Singapore is a national program designed to assist Singaporean companies and research organizations in leveraging artificial intelligence.

“Singapore has established itself as a technology leader and is recognized for harnessing artificial intelligence to address significant societal challenges while fostering economic growth,” stated Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. “We are thrilled to partner with the government and engage with the country’s vibrant AI ecosystem as we expand into the APAC region.”
