Despite the global reach of the web, language barriers often hinder users from fully engaging with content. To address this issue, Reddit is leveraging AI technology to offer automatic translation for users in over 35 countries. Initially launched in France earlier this year, this innovative feature is now available in Brazil and Spain. Redditors can easily access the translation by clicking a dedicated icon in the overflow menu, translating their entire feed—including comments—into Portuguese and Spanish.
A notable advantage of Reddit's approach is its automation; unlike Instagram, where users must translate each post individually, Reddit automatically translates all content. This functionality is accessible across the app, mobile browser, and desktop.
In the coming weeks, Reddit plans to expand this translation feature to Germany, Italy, the Philippines, and various Latin American countries. Additionally, the platform will introduce a banner on translated posts and a quick button to revert to the original content—offering clarity if translations are imperfect. Reddit is also set to implement translated content in search engines, further enhancing accessibility for users worldwide.
