Samsung Enhances SmartThings Ecosystem for a Smarter Home Experience

Samsung has expanded its SmartThings ecosystem for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, enhancing your home's connectivity and convenience.

During the CES 2024 press event in Las Vegas, Samsung SmartThings introduced an immersive TV experience, designed to improve smart home management while you enjoy your content.

Transforming TVs into Smart Home Hubs

Your TV can now serve as a SmartThings Hub, acting as a central control center for connected devices. It can effortlessly detect your smartphone, allowing it to function as an instant remote, eliminating the frustration of juggling multiple controllers.

The SmartThings TV Quick Panel offers a user-friendly interface for quick access to essential functions via a remote. This feature enables users to manage devices, monitor security cameras, and even locate their smartphones without interrupting what they're watching. As you approach your TV, it intelligently powers on and displays vital information about your smart devices and appliances alongside your entertainment.

Users can quickly check their home’s camera feeds, temperature, and even laundry cycle status—all at a glance.

Enhanced Entertainment Experiences

Experience seamless connectivity with the innovative Now+ display. It automatically synchronizes with your TV to help transition music from your earbuds to your TV or speakers effortlessly. Now+ also provides a comprehensive overview of your home, including updates on energy consumption and security camera feeds.

The TV Hue Sync feature transforms your viewing experience by synchronizing ambient lighting with on-screen content. Imagine watching a thrilling movie as your room fills with colors that match the action onscreen, or unwinding with calming hues as you relax at home.

Streamlined Sharing with QR Codes

Sharing your smart home devices with family and guests is now easier than ever. SmartThings Together allows you to customize experiences through simple QR scans. This feature revolutionizes how households and visitors interact with your smart home, enabling each person to control specific devices according to their preferences.

With QR codes, you can grant temporary access to family members or caregivers, allowing them to control smart devices during their visit. This means guests can adjust the thermostat, unlock doors, or operate other devices without needing full access to your system.

SmartThings Together provides enhanced security by ensuring each QR code is valid for a limited time (five minutes) and can only be scanned by one person at a time, reducing the risk of unauthorized access.

Introducing Map View

The new Map View feature makes smart home management easier by integrating actual floor plans into the SmartThings interface. As connected devices in U.S. homes grow in number—averaging 16 per household—Map View simplifies management by visually representing devices within your home's layout.

Map View allows users to monitor their home's status at a glance, providing real-time updates on cameras, temperature, laundry status, and energy usage. Users can create a 3D map of their home by entering an address or uploading a floor plan image, enhancing device management and control.

Through Samsung's LiDAR-enabled devices, like the Jet Bot vacuum, users can automatically generate a floor plan of their space. This synchronized Map View enables users to check and control their devices seamlessly across all platforms—mobile phones, tablets, TVs, and refrigerators.

Integration with Tesla

Samsung also announced a new service integration with Tesla, showcased at CES 2024. This collaboration connects SmartThings Energy with Tesla products, including the Powerwall home battery, Solar Inverter, Wall Connector charging solutions, and electric vehicles (EVs). Utilizing Tesla's open APIs, this partnership enhances SmartThings Energy’s connectivity, furthering Samsung's mission to create seamless home experiences for consumers.
