Slushy Becomes First Adult Content Platform to Secure $10.2M in Venture Funding

Slushy has successfully raised $10.2 million for its creator monetization platform, designed specifically to help creators build their communities while enabling consumers to foster genuine connections. Distinct from other platforms, Slushy operates within the adult entertainment sector.

Based in Miami, Slushy claims to be the first venture-backed adult content platform in history, attracting investment through its innovative approach that merges a robust tech stack with comprehensive moderation, security, and regulation.

The latest funding round features contributions from both new and returning investors, including Mantis VC, co-founded by Grammy Award-winning duo The Chainsmokers, Electric Feel Ventures, Jon Oringer (former CEO of Shutterstock), and Sean Rad (co-founder of Tinder). Notable angel investors include Edison Chen, CEO of Clapper, and Brooklyn Johnny, a music entrepreneur and six-time Grammy winner.

“Creators need discoverability and promotion, while consumers seek intimacy and connection,” stated CEO David Gross. “We combine top-tier commerce and social tools, allowing creators to connect with and monetize their audiences directly, while helping users find new favorite content. This funding will enhance Slushy's growth following our year-over-year success.”

Founded in 2020 by David Gross and Fred Spivock, Slushy aims to empower creators and deliver a personalized user experience through advanced AI discovery tools. The new capital will support the development of new features, onboarding more creators, and expanding into emerging markets, such as South America.

“Adult content platforms have been deemed too risky for investors over the last decade due to predatory business models and inadequate user verification,” said Austin Rosen, general partner at Electric Feel Ventures. “Slushy’s unique, sustainable payout structure and commitment to compliance validate its position as the first venture-backed platform in this sector.”

Slushy recently celebrated a strong Q1 2024, surpassing one million users and increasing its creator base by 40%, reaching 10,000. This growth is driven by the platform's focus on quality content from both established and emerging talent, alongside tools that enhance audience engagement and revenue generation.

Unlike many adult content platforms that cater primarily to creators with significant social media followings, Slushy provides an integrated suite of commerce and discovery tools. This enables creators without an extensive online presence to attract followers and establish sustainable incomes.

To support creators continuously, Slushy has collaborated with AI-driven apps such as STXT and Party Hat AI, allowing for the creation of hyper-realistic avatars and connection through AI chatbots. This innovation fosters deeper interactions while creators concentrate on producing high-quality content.

Notable macro creators, including Sierra Skye and adult film star Sophie Dee, have engaged over one million users through targeted outreach using these tools.

Recently, Slushy introduced Perfect Match, a feature inspired by popular dating app interfaces. Users can swipe right on desired creators to customize their personalized Slushy content feed, contributing to the over 250,000 videos uploaded in-app, encompassing various content types.

“Slushy combines innovative technologies with exclusive content,” commented Alex Pall, general partner at Mantis VC. “Our platform enables creators with little to no existing social following to gain visibility, building upon the success of today’s leading platforms with short-form, swipe-through content powered by machine learning.”

Slushy operates within a comprehensive legal framework, employing advanced compliance tools for consent, ID verification, and content moderation.

The platform aims to support creators at all levels, allowing both macro influencers and micro-entrants to find audiences and earn revenue. Many smaller creators often struggle against top performers on other platforms.

Slushy's advanced tech stack, AI-driven algorithms, and short-form swipe content reflect the formats of popular social media giants like TikTok and Instagram. These features enhance discoverability, promote cross-platform interaction, and facilitate one-on-one fan engagement, contributing to increased monetization and growth potential.

Uniquely, this funding round marks Slushy as the first adult content company to secure venture capital. Historically, adult content has been viewed as a risky investment. However, the participation of leading VCs in technology and emerging industries highlights Slushy’s commitment to creating a compliant, ethical, and trusted platform for consumers and creators alike.
