Spotify has recently ventured into the world of artificial intelligence with its innovative AI DJ feature, which curates personalized music recommendations for users. Now, the streaming giant is working on a Spanish-speaking version of this DJ.
Tech expert and reverse engineer Chris Messina discovered mentions of the new AI DJ within the app's code, highlighting that users should soon have the option to switch the DJ’s language from English to Spanish. The new DJ, likely named “DJ Livi,” is anticipated to debut in Mexico.
If launched, DJ Livi would be the first expansion of the AI DJ feature, which originally debuted globally as DJ X last year exclusively in English. When approached for comment, Spotify did not refute these findings.
“At Spotify, we regularly conduct tests aimed at enhancing how users connect with their favorite music,” a company spokesperson stated. “Some tests evolve into integral features, while others provide valuable insights. However, we currently have no additional updates on our future plans,” they added.
In essence, Spotify has not yet confirmed concrete plans for a Spanish-speaking AI DJ, as the feature remains in the experimental phase. However, targeting Spanish-speaking audiences aligns well with global trends, as Spanish ranks just behind English, Mandarin, and Hindi in terms of popularity. Furthermore, with over 42 million Spanish speakers residing in the U.S.—a crucial market for Spotify—offering the option to set the AI DJ to Spanish would appeal to a significant demographic.
The AI DJ is just one of many ways Spotify is exploring the potential of artificial intelligence. The company has also tested AI-generated ads for podcasts and created personalized playlists based on user prompts. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has hinted at future AI applications across various aspects of the business, including enhanced personalization and innovative advertising strategies.
