Imagine if your smart speakers could alert you to unusual sounds in your home—like breaking glass. Sensory, a cutting-edge software company, has developed an AI technology called TrulySecure Sound ID that can do just that. Described as "Shazam for sounds in the home," this innovative AI continuously listens for a variety of environmental noises such as barking dogs, smoke alarms, low battery alerts, doorbells, and, crucially, breaking glass.
When Sound ID detects an unusual sound, it can send you an alert along with a recorded clip of what it has heard, enabling you to assess whether to contact authorities or investigate further. According to Todd Mozer, Sensory's CEO, “With so many voice-controlled products entering our homes, we recognized the opportunity to enhance the functionality of their microphones beyond just waking up and recognizing speech.”
Sound ID is part of Sensory's AI suite for smart speakers and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, all of which operate locally on the device itself. This means they do not transmit data to the cloud, alleviating privacy and security concerns. Additionally, at CES 2019, Sensory introduced a cloud-free voice control system for Bluetooth speakers, allowing manufacturers to implement custom wake words without relying on platforms like Alexa or Google Assistant. This could pave the way for more personalized voice-activated devices in the future.
