YouTube Shorts Introduces Exciting Generative AI Feature: Dream Screen

YouTube has announced an exciting new feature for its short-form video platform, Shorts. This innovative tool, called Dream Screen, enables users to create stunning AI-generated video or image backgrounds simply by typing in their desired visuals.

During the "Made on YouTube" live event, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan showcased this capability, illustrating how users could enter imaginative prompts like “a panda drinking coffee” to instantly see the corresponding video image appear on screen.

YouTube also provided additional examples, such as whimsical underwater castles or fantastical scenes like dragons and sci-fi moonrises that evoke dream-like imagery.

Mohan emphasized that this groundbreaking technology aims to empower more users to share their creativity on YouTube, eliminating the barrier of needing extensive knowledge of analytics or access to a full production studio.

Currently, the Shorts platform boasts over 70 billion daily views, up from 50 billion at the beginning of the year. YouTube anticipates that AI advancements will further boost these impressive view counts. "At YouTube, we strive to make content creation accessible to everyone, and we believe generative AI will help achieve that," Mohan stated.

This feature is set to launch for select creators before being rolled out to a wider audience in early 2024.

Additionally, YouTube envisions future iterations of Dream Screen where creators can input ideas to edit or remix their existing videos, transforming them into something entirely new.
