Apple's Staged Rollout of Apple Intelligence: Prioritizing Privacy While Enhancing Smart Service Experiences

In a recent interview, Craig Federighi, Apple’s software chief, elaborated on the phased rollout strategy for Apple Intelligence. He emphasized the company’s commitment to thorough testing and optimization of each feature prior to release to ensure a seamless user experience. Consequently, the initial version of Apple Intelligence will focus on foundational capabilities, including text summarization, notification summaries, and a smart photo cleanup tool that intelligently identifies and removes unnecessary elements from images.

Unlike other large language models on the market, Apple adopts a more privacy-oriented and personalized approach. Federighi noted that while ChatGPT excels in handling complex inquiries, it lacks the capability to perform tasks like opening garage doors or sending text messages.

iOS 18.2 is expected to launch by the end of the year, introducing new features such as Image Playground, which can generate cartoon-style images, and Genmoji for creating custom emojis. Regarding updates to Siri, Federighi revealed that significant enhancements are planned for iOS 18.4, set to release in March 2025, indicating Apple’s long-term vision for making Siri more intelligent.

He also mentioned that the rollout of Apple Intelligence is part of a long-term technological evolution, with continued investments and development from Apple. Meanwhile, CEO Tim Cook, during his visit to Sina’s headquarters, announced that the introduction of Apple Intelligence in the Chinese market is progressing rapidly, although it must comply with specific regulatory processes. He expressed hope to deliver this feature to Chinese consumers soon.
