Tesla's Optimus Humanoid Robot Unveiled Again: Production Costs Plummet to $20,000–$30,000

During Tesla's "WE, ROBOT" launch event today, the company unveiled its latest autonomous taxi and showcased the highly anticipated Optimus humanoid robot. CEO Elon Musk announced that the production cost of the Optimus is expected to fall between $20,000 and $30,000.

The event featured multiple Optimus robots performing impressive dance routines, highlighting their exceptional coordination and dexterity. This captivating display reinforced Tesla's innovative prowess in the field of robotics.

Reports indicate that Tesla has already produced hundreds of Optimus robots, although they remain in the testing phase and are not yet ready for mainstream production. Currently, these robots are primarily engaged in data collection and testing design concepts, paving the way for future mass production.

The second-generation Optimus made its debut at the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference. This model boasts significant improvements over its predecessor, including Tesla's custom-designed actuators and sensors, resulting in a more refined appearance. The second-generation Optimus has increased its walking speed by 30%, reduced its weight by 22 pounds (10 kg), and significantly enhanced its balance and control. During the demonstration, the robot successfully performed squats with ease.

Notably, the second-generation Optimus features new dual hands, enabling it to grasp heavier objects and execute intricate tasks. In June, it was trialed at the Tesla factory, where it used vision neural networks and Full Self-Driving (FSD) chips to mimic human operations while participating in battery sorting training.

The continuous advancements of the Optimus humanoid robot suggest a promising future for robotic technology in various industries. As the technology matures and production costs decrease, Optimus is poised to become a vital assistant in households and factories, enhancing the convenience and efficiency of daily life.
