On the first day of the Google I/O conference, the Pixel 8a received its first software update, approximately 190MB in size. This update brings some notable enhancements to Google's latest mid-range smartphone.
Firstly, it installs the May 2024 Android security patch, ensuring that the device is protected against the latest security vulnerabilities. A standout feature of this update is the introduction of Google’s AI-driven wallpaper generator. This feature was initially announced at last year's I/O conference and was first exclusive to the Pixel 8 series, launched last fall. Leveraging generative AI, this tool creates unique wallpapers based on themes and keywords specified by the user.
Previously, Google had restricted the AI wallpaper app to its flagship Pixel 8 models, but now Pixel 8a users can also enjoy this innovative feature. Additionally, the update further bridges the gap between the A series and flagship Pixel models, especially as Google extends its software support policy to include the Pixel 8a for seven years—a policy that was previously exclusive to flagship devices.
