Urgent Update: OpenAI Halts API Services for Users in China

Recently, OpenAI issued a warning to API developers, indicating that it would take steps to cease API usage from unsupported regions.

The warning stated, "Our data shows that your organization is generating API traffic from regions that OpenAI currently does not support. Starting July 9, we will implement additional measures to block API access from these areas." Organizations affected by this restriction must ensure they access OpenAI services from a supported country or region to continue using them.

Currently, OpenAI's API is available in 161 countries and regions; however, mainland China and Hong Kong are not included among those supported. In a statement on February 14, OpenAI emphasized its commitment to preventing malicious uses of artificial intelligence by threat actors associated with specific nations, restricting access for users from countries such as China, North Korea, Iran, and Russia.

This proactive approach aims to preserve the integrity of AI technologies and ensure compliance with global security protocols.
