“Circle to Search: Your Improved Homework Helper for Academic Success”

It’s a teacher’s worst nightmare: AI is tackling students’ homework. At the Google I/O 2024 developer conference on Tuesday, Google unveiled its upgraded AI-powered Circle to Search feature for Android users, now equipped to solve more intricate physics and math word problems through simple gestures like circling.

This enhancement stems from Google’s innovative suite of AI models for education, LearnLM.

The updated capabilities enhance this search feature, which first debuted at Samsung’s Unpacked event in January. Circle to Search aims to create a more intuitive interaction with Google Search, allowing users to engage seamlessly from anywhere on their devices via actions like circling, highlighting, scribbling, or tapping. It serves to encourage users to prefer Google Search over other information-retrieval options in the rapidly advancing era of AI.

With today’s updates, Circle to Search is set up to assist students with their homework directly from compatible Android devices. When faced with challenging problems, they can now rely on Circle to Search for step-by-step guidance to help them understand and solve tricky assignments. Google reports that this feature will adeptly manage issues involving symbolic formulas, diagrams, graphs, and more.

Since its launch earlier this year, Circle to Search has expanded its availability across various Samsung and Google Pixel devices, reaching over 100 million devices in total. Google anticipates that number will double by the year’s end.
