Create Stunning AI-Generated Photos of Yourself with Artisse: Use Prompts, Templates, or Reference Images

Artisse is the newest AI photo creation app poised to rival the recently popular Remini and other competitors. It lets users generate striking AI photos by uploading a collection of selfies. Artisse claims to elevate the AI photo app experience by offering enhanced input and output capabilities, as well as greater realism in photos, even when set in fantastical environments.

Like similar applications, users upload 15 images to help the AI learn their unique features. Once the images are uploaded, users can create new AI photos using either text prompts or image prompts. With image prompts, you can select from existing templates or upload your own reference photo to generate images of yourself in various settings, poses, and styles. Templates offer further customization options, allowing you to adjust styles or add additional prompts with just a tap.

Behind the scenes, Artisse utilizes its proprietary AI model, which incorporates best practices from established open-source models and tools.

The company is actively working to enhance the app’s flexibility regarding body diversity and skin tones—a critical aspect where other AI photo apps have struggled. This includes addressing common complaints about unrealistic body representations, like those voiced by women using Remini, who felt the app made them appear thinner or altered their features significantly. Artisse recognizes these challenges, especially when a user uploads a reference image of a slimmer individual.

Founded by William Wu, a former strategist with experience at McKinsey & Co. and Oaktree Capital, this bootstrapped startup aims to democratize personal photography. Wu was motivated to develop this AI app as he noticed many individuals showcasing seemingly “perfect” photos on platforms like Instagram and dating sites. He emphasizes that creating such photos typically requires privilege, extensive time, patience, or specialized knowledge. “With the advent of AI, our goal is to make perfect personal photography accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or experience level,” Wu explains.

While the app takes longer than others—approximately 30 to 40 minutes for processing selfies and training the AI—the image generation itself only takes a few minutes. Wu asserts that this extensive training enhances the realism of the photos produced. Users can also browse for inspiration from a diverse array of photo styles, poses, and backgrounds or upload images from their own library.

Artisse offers the first 25 photos at no cost, charging roughly 20 cents for each photo thereafter. In future updates, the app plans to introduce a subscription model featuring HD and sizing options. For business clients, Artisse provides a comprehensive consulting service that includes model selection, image generation, and post-production, with pricing based on time and involvement.

Originating from Hong Kong-based Mumu Labs, Artisse is currently a bootstrapped venture, though Wu mentions that the startup is in negotiations with a U.K.-based venture capital firm and exploring additional investment opportunities.

Available on both iOS and Android, Artisse aims to tap into the approximately 800 million users of photo-editing apps, with plans for a web version launching next month.
