Meta's Ray-Bans glasses with cameras already have many AI features. But now, they are getting two new big features: real-time AI help and translation. These features are starting today for people who can use Meta's new features early. Mark Zuckerberg showed these features at Meta's Connect developer conference earlier this year.
How the Features Work
These new features use continuous audio and camera recording. This means you don't need to give specific commands. The Ray-Bans can be used for a long time with the AI features on. To start the real-time AI, you just say, "Meta, start Live AI." When the live AI is on, the glasses' LED light stays on. Meta also records the conversation. You can look at this recording during the AI session. For translation, it works automatically when you talk. The translation comes through the glasses with a small delay.
Battery Life and More
The real-time AI help uses a lot of battery power. According to Meta, you can use the glasses for about 30 minutes before you need to recharge them. More tech companies will be looking into this kind of always-on camera AI in the next year. I will share my thoughts after I get a chance to test it myself.
