Microsoft Bing Enhances Personalized Answers with DALL-E 3 Support and Watermarked AI Images

Microsoft’s Bing is set to roll out several significant AI enhancements, including integration with OpenAI's DALL-E 3 model, more personalized responses in both search and chat, and tools for watermarking AI-generated images. These developments were unveiled at a New York event this week, where Microsoft also showcased new Surface devices featuring integrated AI experiences.

The upcoming Windows 11 upgrade will introduce various AI features, including the introduction of the AI assistant Copilot, starting September 26. This will subsequently expand across Bing, Edge, and Microsoft 365 Copilot throughout the fall. Microsoft 365 Copilot, an AI assistant designed for workplace productivity, will be available to enterprise customers starting November 1, 2023. Additional AI enhancements are also planned for Windows applications like Paint, Photos, and Clipchamp.

In addition to Windows updates, Microsoft is enhancing Bing's search capabilities with the improved DALL-E 3 integration. Initially, DALL-E was incorporated into Bing in March; however, at the time, its exact version was not disclosed, beyond it being the "latest" model. Now, Microsoft has confirmed the upgrade to DALL-E 3, which is designed to better render intricate details such as fingers, eyes, and shadows.

Furthermore, Microsoft is emphasizing responsible image generation practices. The updated system will provide invisible digital watermarks for all AI-generated images, referred to as Content Credentials. This approach utilizes cryptographic technologies and standards set by the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), which includes notable partners like Adobe, Intel, and Sony. This enhancement aims to foster greater transparency regarding AI-generated visuals.

Bing will also deliver more personalized search results by referencing previous interactions with Bing Chat. Microsoft explains, “If you’ve engaged with Bing Chat about your favorite movies, books, or music, future queries will consider these interests to enhance answer accuracy.” This personalized approach is opt-out, allowing users to disable it if they prefer not to have their chat history influence search results.

For instance, if you’ve previously searched for a favorite sports team, Bing could inform you about their games when planning a trip to a relevant destination. Microsoft believes this feature will streamline search experiences, noting that many users conduct numerous searches on a single topic—more than 60% involve tweaking the original query. Personalized context, such as past searches or current research topics, will markedly improve the utility of these searches.

Additionally, Bing Chat Enterprise will soon support multimodal Visual Search and Image Creator for over 160 million Microsoft 365 users, enhancing their workplace AI capabilities.

Windows 11 will also feature streamlined support for managing passkeys.
