Sean Murray, CEO of Hello Games, has announced the exciting introduction of fishing as a new activity in No Man's Sky.
This development arose unexpectedly following the release of the Worlds Part I update, which recently drew the game's highest player count in over five years.
“Eight years in, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have a dedicated community that still cares about our beloved game. Their passion energizes our small team and inspires us to enhance the No Man's Sky universe,” Murray shared.
Players embraced the update’s innovative water technology, and many have been posting videos showcasing tranquil moments by the water's edge. One particular piece of fan art featuring a player leisurely fishing from their boat's wing sparked the inspiration for the next update, dubbed Aquarius, where fishing would finally be introduced.
In this update, players can explore the universe to discover their ideal fishing spots, bustling with diverse fish species. They can take the time to relax alone or with fellow travelers, all while enjoying breathtaking alien vistas and waiting for a bite.
The update boasts a wide variety of fish, from common minnows to exotic alien species, each with unique habitats and specific catching conditions. Gamers can use bait to attract rare catches and even search for hidden messages in bottles while trawling the depths. Additionally, players will earn trophies, complete fishing logs, and unlock new fishing gear.
A standout feature is the unique fishing expedition, inviting players to compete for the biggest catch of the day. With new equipment, players can easily fish in deep waters from personal fishing platforms, and Fishing Pots are now available to bait and trap elusive catches. Players can also experiment with new recipe combinations to cook their fresh catch.
“My favorite thing is to set up a cozy base on the perfect shoreline so I can fish whenever the mood strikes,” Murray reflected. “Our journey continues.”
