Nvidia Enhances Affordable Jetson AI Computer—Double the Power at Half the Cost

Nvidia has introduced the new Jetson Orin Nano Super, an affordable and powerful AI computer aimed at developers and enthusiasts, priced at $249—half the cost of its predecessor. This compact device offers a 70% increase in AI performance, capable of handling up to 67 trillion operations per second (TOPS), making it highly efficient for processing inputs from up to four cameras simultaneously.

The Jetson Orin Nano Super is equipped with Nvidia's Ampere architecture GPU and a six-core ARM processor, allowing it to run multiple AI applications concurrently. It features 8GB of shared memory, optimized for running local AI models such as Flux or Stable Diffusion without encountering "out of memory" errors and reducing inference time.

The device supports a range of small and large language models, including the 8-billion-parameter Llama 3.1 model, with a text generation speed of approximately 18-20 tokens per second. While it may have some limitations for high-performance requirements, the Jetson Orin Nano Super provides excellent value for prototyping and small-scale applications.

Nvidia has also released software updates for existing Jetson Orin Nano users to enhance the efficiency of their older processors. Overall, the Jetson Orin Nano Super matches the AI performance of an RTX 2060 but consumes significantly less power, making it ideal for AI development in edge computing scenarios.
